The Locarno Film Festival, held every year in early August, is one of the most renowned film festivals in the world. For ten days, films are shown on the big screen in Piazza Grande, at the Palacinema and at numerous other locations. The Rotonda offers additional entertainment with culinary delights, concerts, and activities for the whole family. The Dell'Angelo is right in the midst of all the action, offering the perfect spot to dive into the full experience!

It is the largest music festival south of the Alps! Every July, Locarno’s Moon & Stars attracts thousands of music lovers as Piazza Grande transforms into a concert stage. Along Lake Zorzi, the Food & Music Street stretches out with its food trucks. The free concerts at Piazza Piccola provide musical enjoyment for all.

In June, JazzAscona brings the streets and lakeside promenade of Ascona to life with numerous concerts and jam sessions over ten days. Performances take place on four stages along the lakeshore and in the picturesque Borgo. JazzAscona is the only festival outside the USA officially supported by the city of New Orleans.

From late November to early January, Piazza Grande transforms into a magical winter wonderland. The ice rink, an ice tire slide, a Christmas market, the fondue house, and various food stalls create a festive winter atmosphere. Concerts and an audiovisual show projected onto the picturesque facades of Piazza Grande make this winter fairy tale a unique experience for all ages.

The popular spring event Camelie Locarno takes place every year at the end of March, offering a unique chance to experience the stunning and vibrant varieties of camellias up close. The Camellia Garden, home to over a thousand plants and numerous camellia species, is in full bloom and breathtaking beauty from March to April.

The summer festival "Luci e Ombre" - meaning Light and Shadow - takes place over a July weekend along the lakeside of Locarno-Muralto. With a variety of entertainment, music, and culinary delights, there is plenty of fun to be had. The festival culminates in a spectacular fireworks display in the evening.

The "Settimane Musicali Ascona" has been the leading classical music festival in Italian-speaking Switzerland for over 70 years. With its symphony concerts, chamber music evenings, and instrumental recitals, it has earned an international reputation. The most famous artists from the music scene have performed here, many of whom have returned to Ascona time and again. The concerts are held in the Collegio Papio church in Ascona as well as in the San Francesco church in Locarno.

Once a year, on a June night, Locarno stays awake until the early hours of the morning, offering space for culture, music, art, and entertainment. Live concerts, dance performances, street artists, and stalls with culinary specialties fill the many squares of the old town with life.
